Summer Holy Communion Picks

It’s officially rosé season. If you’re subscribed to our newsletter, you might have read about some of our picks for the month of June, but if we’re being honest, rosé never goes out of style or season. This summer we’re channeling hydrated, unbothered and high style vibes, so we’ve narrowed down our selection to a few wines and spirits that encapsulate the mood.

For this installment of our Holy Communion, we’re pairing some of our favorite summer wines with the seasonal dishes from across the globe. Let us know what you decide to try.

Lubanzi Canned Rosé x Strawberry and Feta Summer Salad

These cans of sparkling rosé from Swartland, South Africa are a refreshing dose of minerality, salinity and acidity. We love the wild cherry notes and the summer aromas in the wine make it a perfect pairing for a summer strawberry and feta salad.

Heyl Zu Herrnheim Riesling x Escovitch Fish

This Jamaican dish is heavy on the aromatics - carrots and onions, garlic and vinegar - and that’s why we love it with an equally aromatic wine. A riesling grown on red slate in The Rheinhessen, Germany’s largest wine producing region, is a match made in heaven. We love the Heyl Zu Herrnheim Riesling which is equal parts powerful and understated.

Akilia Tosca Cerrada Palomino Fino x Summer Charcuterie Platter

You might know Palomino Fino as the grape primarily used in Sherry production, but we love that it has another personality. This version from Akilia Tosca Cerrada is a fresh young wine with hints of green apple rind and almond. It’s our go to pairing for summer charcuterie boards— pickled onions, cured meats, firm cheeses, and briny olives make the wine pop.

Quinta da Ermegeira, Cristovan Lisboa Orange x Chicken Adobo

Cha’s spent plenty of quality time in Portugal so we’re partial to the country’s culture, food and wine. This Orange wine, made of 100% Arinto, is macerated on the skins for 8 days before its aged in stainless steel. For this pairing, we’re calling on a dish beloved in the The Philippines and around the world—Chicken Adobo. It’s the national dish of The Philippines and we loved its layered flavors of umami and acidity. Pair that with this wine that holds up to the spices for a memorable duo.

Moscow Mule Can x Salmon and Lentil Salad

Cracking open a can in the middle of a hot day is a sign that a good time will ensue. Moscow Mule in a can is the ready to drink option we didn’t know we needed. This is quite enjoyable with some gas station snacks, but take it up a notch and try it with a salmon and lentil salad. Thank us later.

Grilled Pineapple Slices and Striped Lion Cocoa Rum

No one ever needed an excuse to open a bottle of rum, but that is made all the more tasty when enjoyed for dessert alongside some freshly grilled pineapple. The notes of cacao nibs and molasses complement the caramelized sugar of the pineapple.
