March Holy Communion Picks

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re giving a shout out to all the women-produced products that we adore.

Mary Taylor Pascal Biotteau Anjou Blanc 2021 with herb-roasted chicken

After two decades in the wine industry, Mary Taylor wanted to bring her favorite overseas appellations to more drinkers. Mary Taylor Pascal Biotteau Anjou Blanc (2021), like all of the bottles in Mary Taylor’s range, are made from a partnership with local growers and labeled to give some clarity and transparency into the wine’s homeland.

Chenin Blanc is the Loire’s star grape and after one sip, it’s clear why. We love the way the delicate aromas of white lilies dance on our palates, followed up with some yellow apple, pineapple and sweet quince. To see it shine even brighter, pair it with an herb roasted chicken.

Anne Pichon, Sauvage Ventoux Syrah Grenache 2020 with beef pot pie

Anne Pichon moved to Cote de Ventoux village of Mormoiron with her husband in the ‘90s and began resurrecting vines that were in bad shape. Today the land is beyond fertile and tilled by hand, where it produces opulent, jaw-dropping wines like Anne Pichon, Sauvage Ventoux Syrah Grenache 2020.

The wine is fermented and then and undergoes 6 months of maturation in cement tanks before it’s bottled and ready for your drinking pleasure. Expect sensual black fruit like blackberry and black cherry paired with dried violet and spice. Beef pot pie with a glass of this Syrah Grenache blend (80%/20%) makes for the coziest meal ever.

Living Roots Wine & Co., Vidal Finger Lakes (2019) with peach pie

We can think of a few reasons why we’re partial to Living Roots wine (Woman-produced, check! Finger Lakes, check!) But the most important factor to us is how delicious this wine is. Colleen Hardy produces Living Roots wine alongside her husband Seb and show just how multi-faceted the Finger Lakes can be. Split between Rochester, NY and South Australia, the Hardys leverage the terroir in both, which is evident in their Living Roots Wine & Co., Vidal Finger Lakes (2019).

This is a mashup of some delicate flavors — beeswax, gentle floral notes, juicy peach — made in a sweet style. We love it paired with homemade peach pie.

La Gritona Agave Tequila Reposado with sweet potato fries

Melly Barajas is at the helm of this distillery, producing La Gritona 100% Agave Tequila Reposado. The brand is proudly additive free and with the amount of love that goes into each bottle, it’s clear why. La Gritona uses only mature agave (between 8 - 10 years old) which is then steam-cooked in ovens and rested, before crushing. The resulting liquid is fermented and then distilled and rested in American whiskey barrels for 8 months. After that it’s reached perfection and bottled so it can make its way to you.

It’s smooth with a peppery herbaceousness. No burning notes here. Just elegant tequila that has faint hints of grapefruit and lychee. It pairs perfectly with the sweet/savory notes of sweet potato fries.
